A Brief Overview of Trinity Lutheran’s History
Trinity Lutheran Church was founded on November 23, 1906, with eight families. Early services were held in private homes until membership increased when services were held in the German Lutheran Church of Boyceville. In 1910, a committee began to look into building a church at the corner of what is now Main Street and Highway 79. The first service held in this building was on January 19th, 1913. An addition was built in the 1960’s to accommodate the growing congregation and the church building would serve the congregation until 1997.
Beginning in 1919, Rev. R.W. Peterson began serving the church and he did so for the next thirty years. During this time, Trinity, which had been joined with other congregations in Glenwood City, Emerald, and Wheeler, broke from Glenwood City and Emerald and entered into a parish partnership with Our Savior’s Lutheran in Wheeler which lasted until 2003.
In the 1990’s, it became apparent that Trinity had outgrown the original church building and a new one would need to be built. After a donation of land by Ed and Sue Evenson, a new church building was built up the road from the old church at the corner of Nordveien Dr. and Highway 79. The original altar, baptismal font, and stained glass was moved to the new church, as well as the bell which was set in a new bell tower in front of the church. In 2003, Trinity decided to become a solo parish and continues as such to this day. Since Trinity has moved into the new building, it has added a car port, paved the parking lot, remolded the Sunday School rooms, built a storage shed, and dedicated the garden in memory of Steven Boley.
The current pastor is Pastor Bradley Peterson, who has served Trinity since 2002. He is the 15th pastor of the congregation. At present, Trinity has grown from eight families to over 500 members dedicated to worshipping and serving Jesus Christ. Trinity Lutheran Church is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the Northwest Synod of Wisconsin
